born: 10/7/1935 born as: Thomas Keneally
Australian writer best known for his historical novels. Keneally's characters are gripped by their historical and personal past, and decent individuals are portrayed at odds with systems of authority. - Merriam-Webster's Encyclopedia of Literature
Schindler's Ark, became Schindler's List in the American edition, presumably on the principle that in a country full of bible-thumpers, we be too simple to understand the concept of an "Ark." Although originally published in the U.K., the Australian edition, (probably on the "follow-the-flag" principle, for this Australian author), is also scarce and desirable. They were all published in 1982. The rest of Keneally's books are modestly priced, although his first book, a mystery The Place at Whitton (1964 UK, 1965 US) commands a few dollars when in nice condition.
