American economist who wrote romantic fiction as well as non-fiction works about politics and economics. His popular self-help book, How to Attract Good Luck was translated into several languages. He won awards for his short stories in Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine and his only novel, Finding Maubee, written shortly before his death, won an Edgar Award and was made into the film The Mighty Quinn starring Denzel Washington.
