Unbound. Original artwork. Appears to be oil on cardboard (unexamined out of frame) glazed in wooden frame. The painting is approximately 8" x 17", the frame is approximately 10½" x 19¾". Appears fine in a slightly worn very good frame. A striking palette of reds, blues, greens, and yellows depict a standing nude standing contrapposto, her left arm raised as she pushes back her vibrant red hair. Likely Cummings' third wife, Marion Morehouse, whom he painted often; written on the back of the frame is "M.M.C." Known for his experimental poetry, Cummings was also a prolific painter with a distinct style. In a piece titled "Forward I" found in his collected miscellaneous writings, Cummings plays out an imaginary conversation, "Why do you paint?/For the exact same reason I breathe ... Tell me doesn't your painting interfere with your writing/Quite the contrary: they love each other dearly."
