Wolfville Nights

New York: Frederick A. Stokes, (1902).

Price: $1,250.00

First edition. Fine in an attractive, very good or better dustwrapper with a number of small chips, and a little tanning to the spine. Laid in is a small, two-page Autograph Letter Signed ("Alfred Henry Lewis") to the publisher Moffat, Yard and Co. politely declining their offer to co-author a book with Western artist Charles Schreyvogel. Lewis was a socially conscious reporter who migrated to the West and wrote a series of Western novels and stories, in the process introducing fabled lawman "Bat" Masterson to journalism. In 1917 and 1918 four separate films were made from the Wolfville stories, at least two of them using the same cast and crew. Rare in jacket.
