Unbound. Original dust jacket art. Image matted to approximately 11" x 15". Water color and grisaille. A bit of rubbing in the margins, very good or better. Unsigned. Image of a man holding a gun on another man with a horrified woman looking on. Subtitled "A Romance of the Free Forest," this adventure novel was the basis for two silent film versions, both entitled *The Call of the North*. The first, in 1914, was written and directed by Cecil B. DeMille and was the first film for which he received solo directorial credit. The second, in 1921, was directed by Joseph Henabery and starred Noah Beery and Jack Holt (whose granite-jawed visage was the basis for cartoonist Chester Gould's Dick Tracy).
