Foxing to the plates and nearby pages, edges of the boards rubbed and spine gilt a bit dull, very good in good or better dust jacket with internal tape repairs to most of the fold and moderate edgewear, including nicks, tears and creases. Inscribed by Ashbury: "For Fred Board -- This is one of my best books, but it didn't do too well, because people who read aren't interested in gambling & gamblers don't read. I should write comic books. Herbert Asbury Mar. 30-1954." Basis for the 1938 film with Charles Bickford and Ann Dvorak (though not the 2002 film of the same name). A nice copy of the book in a flawed, but presentable example of the rare jacket, and with a wonderful inscription by the author.
