Unpaginated, approximately 900pp. Contemporary rich brown morocco, both boards decoratively stamped in black, spine with raised bands vertically furrowed along their surfaces with black lines, the bands create six compartments each repeating a decoration stamped in black save for the second from the top which has "Holy Bible" stamped in gilt, all page edges gilt, and marbled endpapers. A lengthy gift inscription quoting scripture on the first front flyleaf. Both Testaments with their own title page (Old Testament dated 1865, New Testament dated 1866). The boards and spine show some wear at the corners and edges with two small scuff marks on the rear board and a small white mark on the front board, and the originally attached ribbon bookmark has detached and is laid in, else very good or better with the pages bright and clean and the binding sound and tight.
Contains the family record of Thomas Browning Hewitt, born in North Stonington, Connecticut, September 9, 1842 and Amanda Evelyn Brower, born in Brooklyn, New York, May 27, 1848; the two were married April 12, 1871. Thomas was a lawyer in Brooklyn. Both are buried in North Stonington, Connecticut. The family record is extensively filled in with an additional sheet of records laid in (written on one half of the recto only). Among the recorded dates are births, deaths, baptisms and more.
