[Tony Award Presenter's Booklet, Announcing]: Angels in America: The Millennium Approaches (1993 Tony Award for Best Play of the Year)

[New York]: The League of American Theatres and Producers / The American Theatre Wing, 1993.

Price: $3,500.00

Unbound. Tony Award Presenter’s Booklet (from which the presenter would read the nominees and announce the winner onstage). Two clothcovered panels bound together, with decorative cord at the spine. The printed list of nominees is laid down onto the exterior of the lower board; the presenter would then open the booklet to announce the winner. Front panel with some dark toning, the list of nominees a bit soiled, very good. The presenter, actor Jonathan Pryce, has Signed the booklet beneath the winning play’s information: “Jonathan Pryce Presenter!”

The booklet used onstage by Jonathan Pryce at the 47th Annual Antoinette Perry Awards (aka “Tonys”), to announce that Part I of Kushner’s Angels in America had won Best Play of the Year for 1993. The play beat out *The Sisters Rosenweig, Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me, and The Song of Jacob Zulu*. Kushner’s plays were the basis for the 2003 HBO miniseries of the same name, starring Al Pacino, Meryl Streep and Emma Thompson. An excellent piece of both theater and LGBTQ history. Presumably unique.
