[Yearbook]: Commencement Number of the Steele Magnet 1915

Dayton, Ohio: Steele High School, 1915.

Price: $400.00

Softcover. First edition. Large quarto. 191pp. Illustrated with many tipped in images, as issued. String-tied printed paper over card wrappers. Some staining on the front wrap, tears and chips at the edges of the yapped edges, externally good only; but internally near fine. High school annual for a major (but now defunct) Dayton high school, and the alma mater of Paul Laurence Dunbar, who during his time there was the only Black student and who graduated there in 1891 when it was known as Central High School (along with his school friends Wilbur and Orville Wright). A curious yearbook, less than 5% of the class was African-Americans (who appear in Senior pictures), but except for the Athena Club for Black girls (a literary group), and the school orchestra, no Black students seem to appear as members of any other clubs or sports teams.
