Between the Covers

Unbound. Vintage carte de visite photograph. Albumen print measuring 2.5" x 4" on slightly larger card mount. Caption and photographer's name in the image. A couple of tiny spots of foxing on the image, faint evidence of removal from an album, else near fine. Davis's head atop a drawing of a dress. It was rumored that when Davis was captioned at War's end, he had disguised himself in a woman's dress. That this was not true discouraged no one from repeating the story. Very scarce.
