Boston: Engraved by Illman & Pillbrow for Samuel Walker, 1832.
Price: $3,500.00
Unbound. Uncut sheet of two steel engravings from the first American edition. Engraved by Thomas Illman and Edward Pilbrown of New York. Sheet measuring approximately 10¾" x 8¾". Tiny corner chip, else fine. The images are: “Part of Regents-Town a Settlement of Liberated Negroes. (in the Colony of Sierra Leone)” and “A Slave Praying for the Recovery of the Missionary from Sickness.” Both images were produced especially for the American edition of *Origin and History of Missions; Containing Faithful Accounts of the Voyages, Travels, labors and Successes of the Various Missionaries Who Have Been Sent Forth to Evangelize the Heathen* published in two volumes by S. Walker and Lincoln & Edmands in 1832-33. (The book was first published in London in 1824-25, but credited to Smith only and with different plates.) The illustrations are presumably rare in this format.
