Hardcover. Second printing. Tall octavo. x, 345pp. Spine bumped causing light creasing in the gutters throughout (but not seriously affecting the binding), bright and near fine in a spine-tanned, very good dust jacket with some edge nicking and two unnecessary internal tape reinforcements at the spine ends. With two neat private library labels on front pastedown: that of noted anthropologist Rhoda Métraux, as well as a smaller label, "MM/RM 211," almost certainly a joint library label for Métraux and pioneering anthropologist Margaret Mead. The two women were longtime collaborators, as well as romantic partners. Métraux's library label gives the Greenwich Village address (193 Waverly Place) where the two lived from 1955 to 1966. An important and well-received study with a lovely association.
