Prints the first appearance of Cunningham's story "The Tin Star," basis for the classic Western film *High Noon* starring Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly in her first major role, written by Carl Foreman and directed by Fred Zinnemann. The film, often described as "a western for people who don't like westerns," is notable for several reasons including its brave and not-so-subtle allegory of blacklisting, its use of a real-time cinematic scenario, and its marketing of a theme song ("Do Not Forsake Me"). Cooper won an Academy Award, and Dimitri Tiomkin won two (one for the song, one for the entire score). The magazine also includes Jack Finney's second published story, and an article by Irving Wallace. An elusive source for a seminal film, *High Noon* was the highest rated of the eight Westerns selected in the original AFI list of America's 100 Greatest Movies.
