Touch Wood [With Four Typed Notes Signed Tipped-in]

New York: Atheneum, 1960.

Price: $125.00

Hardcover. First edition. Octavo. 370pp. Memorial bookplate of J. Owen Grundy, Jersey City Historian, on the front blank (with some toning and slight discoloration), and with two brief inked notes by him: the author's address, and that he (Grundy) is briefly mentioned on p.140. Grundy's tiny owner label on the front pastedown, corners of the front cover with modest discoloration, topstain sunned and two tiny spots of white paint on the topedge, very good in a worn and stained, about good dust jacket with shallow edge loss and two small splits at the upper flap folds. Neatly tipped-on to the endleaves are four Typed Notes Signed from Ernst to Grundy, mostly regarding mutual acquaintances and a move of Ernst's. The most interesting one begins: "You are still one of my favorite indignant citizens." Ernst goes on to write that he has been "utterly complimented, as you will note, from the blistering attacks leveled at me by Koch intimates Do you know of any potential Republican leadership of good will in our district?" A nice association copy of this journal of a year's travel and adventure.
