Between the Covers

Softcover. Large oblong quarto commercial album. Cord-tied dark red flexible cloth with "Photographs" in gilt on the front wrap. Edgewear on the cloth, a few leaves are detached, very good; the photographs are mostly near fine. The album contains approximately 500 gelatin silver photographs of various sizes, with perhaps the average about 2.5" x 4", but many both larger and smaller. Evidence that perhaps a dozen or two images are lacking, but there are also several loose images laid in. A majority of the images are captioned either in the margins or below the image on the album page. Largely spanning the years 1919-1928, with a few slightly earlier or later; and a few clippings from Racine newspapers about WWII soldiers near the end. A thoroughly pleasing domestic album, geographically homogenous to Wisconsin, likely kept by a young woman, starting with a few images of high school and middle school, home and farm images with barns and many animals, a barn-raising, many identified friends and family members, a circus, storm damage, (the seemingly obligatory) image of a train wreck, snow scenes, large woodpiles, ice-skating, etc. There are a number of travel or vacation images, but most seem to be in Wisconsin. A geographically specific album with a generous amount of images, many captioned.
