Binding cocked with modest loss at the corners and spine ends, spine gilt rubbed away, and a long strip of loss on the upper shoulder, mirrored by a tear on the front pastedown (neatly strengthened there), lower hinge starting but stabilized, sound but good only, lacking the dust jacket. Inscribed on the front fly: "To John and Jean with love, John O'Hara 6 May 1949." The author's third book and second novel, and basis for the 1960 film with Oscar-winner Elizabeth Taylor, Laurence Harvey, Eddie Fisher and Dina Merrill. One of the author's best known novels.
