Some People

London: Constable & Co Ltd., 1928.

Price: $700.00

Hardcover. Fourth printing, six months after the first. Orange cloth lettered in black. Overall modest soiling, very good lacking the dust jacket. Inscribed by Nicolson to a German state and film actor, Hanns-Maria Bohmer: "To an interesting, intelligent, rather sentimental, not very broad-minded, but quite receptive, and over all, very charming, Rheinlander and German, Namely Hans Bohmer from the author, Harold Nicolson. Berlin 1928." Laid in is a clipping about the actor Bohmer in German. Additionally the book has been re-inscribed by Bohmer at a later date: "To Ruth - the wife with the sympatheticish [?] hands! Hanns-Maria. Berlin 1934." Intriguingly, also laid in is a small slip of paper on which is written "Some Books are for Some People. W." While we do not assert that this was written by Virginia Woolf, it is known that she was a very strong advocate for this book, and we don't believe it is beyond the realm of possibility.
