Hardcover. First edition thus. Two volumes. Octavos. 443, 440pp. Half leather over patterned cloth boards by McNamee of Cambridge, Mass. with their tiny ticket on the front pastedown of each volume. Bindings with some rubbing at the shoulders and edges, top corners of Volume I worn through, Volume II with the gutter neatly strengthened at the front blank and Volume I with a short split at the rear hinge (but sound), preliminary and terminal leaves with a bit of offsetting and light foxing, very good and sound. With a Christmas gift Inscription to the author's granddaughter, Mary Rosamond Wild, in an infirm hand, in each volume. Wild was the fourth child of Richard Dana, Jr., noted lawyer and author of *Two Years Before the Mast*, and his wife Sarah. Poems, essays, and reviews by the lawyer, poet, and critic, with a nice association.
