[Trade Catalog]: 1929 Gambling

Chicago: H.C. Evans & Co., (1929).

Price: $500.00

Softcover. First edition. Wrappers. Octavo. 160pp. Profusely illustrated in red and blue from cuts and halftone photographs. Cover with a bit of soiling, short tear at the crown not affecting soundness, corners a bit bumped, near fine with an unused order form and mailing envelope laid in. Conceived as a follow-up to Evans & Co.'s famous "Blue Book," apparently by that time endlessly imitated by competitors, the introduction states that this is the "most complete book of its kind ever produced." Contains hundreds of interesting items related to gambling including cards, dice (15 pages' worth), carnival games, card tables and roulette wheels, poker chips, and of course items created to help beat the odds: loaded dice and a giant tabletop electromagnet for controlling them, Card Shears and Slick Ace Cards, Strippers both convex and concave (as well as combination, high, and low), Montana Edge Work and Ruby Ray Glasses, and two pages dedicated to Card Holdout Machines. Heavily illustrated, chock-full of interesting information, and in great shape.
