Between the Covers

Hardcover. First edition. Slight age-toning at the edges of the pages, still about fine in near fine dust jacket with a creased tear and small chip, both on the rear panel. Inscribed by Hecht to Harpo Marx and his wife, the actress Susan Fleming on the front fly: "For Harpo [and] Susan. Love old friends. Ben Hecht." Book label designed by Fleming on the front pastedown (but printed by the bookseller who bought their library). A collection of short stories by Hecht, one of Hollywood's greatest screenwriters. He won two Oscars, and was nominated for several others, but whose greatest contributions were as a "script doctor", in which capacity he re-wrote and polished the scripts for many of Hollywood's most famous movies. A beautiful copy of this collection of stories, with a significant association.
