Hardcover. Large pictorial broadside. First edition. Single sheet printed in color on glossy white paper, measuring 21" x 52". Folded as issued. Printed on recto only, illustrated in color by Bernice Myers, with nine captioned vignettes, instructing children about the process of voting. The poster is unused and folded, complete, as issued. There is a very light brown stain at the corner edges of a few areas of this very large poster where a few folds intersect, visible mostly in blank margins only, a very good copy with the poster and images otherwise very fresh and bright, with all of the ballots and various campaign buttons intact and unused. Issued as "Arrow Election Kit PG 749".
The main part of the poster (the upper three-quarters) measures 21" x 34" and illustrates the nine stages necessary to run for President of the United States, from campaigning, party nominations, choosing a running mate, the national campaign, debating, the election day, etc.; each stage is illustrated with a captioned drawing by Bernice Myers. The lower portion of the poster 21" x 17.5" has various pre-cut, circular pictorial stickers, which are intact and complete, but can be removed, (die-cut for easy removal) to be used for teaching the election process.
An introductory text begins: "How to Use Your Arrow Election Kit… [It] is designed to aid you in holding your own mock elections based approximately on Presidential elections in the United States. The poster "So You Want to Run for President' can be displayed and… discussed… to show how a candidate is elected… [followed by detailed instructions for the mock election, including appointing a board of elections, campaign managers, nomination petitions, etc.]. The poster also includes a removable "class tally sheet," 21 separate ballots, and 36 perforated paper campaign buttons. The buttons (in 12 different designs) include a blank space for the candidates' name, and various campaign slogans, such as: "Happiness is - for President," "You Don't have a Ghost of a Chance Without - " "Let's Bake a Cake for - ," "I'm Just Wild About - ," "The Girl to Lead Us," etc. Unrecorded by *OCLC* (which does note several other ephemeral titles by Bernice Myers, published by Scholastic Books, described as activity books, with "Action Cut-Outs").
