Price: $675.00

Unbound. Half-tone portrait of English novelist Mrs. Humphry Ward. Measuring 6" x 4.5" on unprinted cardstock mount. Photographers mark in the image. The portrait is in fine condition with modest wear at the extremities of the mount, with a small chip at one corner. Signed and dated by "Mary A. Ward, Stocks, Jan. 14, 1911" ("Stocks" was Ward's estate in Hertfordshire). Ward stares directly into the camera, looking formidable. She was a popular English novelist, her first publications were children's books, then novels for adults. She helped found the Women's National Anti-Suffrage League in 1908, and that same year served as its first President.
