Unbound. Engraved portrait of Charles Dickens by George Cruikshank. Single sheet measuring circa 12" x 15.5" printed on recto only. Image measures 3.5" x 6" (and the plate mark measures 6" x 7.75"). Faint, early tanning at blank margins, with two short tears in the blank right margin, unprinted verso tanned, else very good, with the engraved image very fresh and bright. This portrait of Charles Dickens is included in the Victoria and Albert collection of Charles Dickens at the V&A: [cf 'Charles Dickens at the V&A' (where image is reproduced)]. The image depicts Charles Dickens, finely dressed in a vested suit, seated in an armchair next to a covered table, holding an open book in his left hand. Signatures of Charles Dickens and George Cruikshank, reproduced in holograph facsimile in the lower margin of the engraved plate, with publisher's printed information at lower edge of engraved plate.
