One page of text has single, marginal ink scoring (in the author's hand?), early staining along the spine, else a very good copy, with the text fresh and clean. Signed by Howard D. Gregg, on the title page, beneath his printed name, and Inscribed by him: "Vote Gregg for Bishop" in upper margin of the title page.

The author's first book, published under the auspices of the Bi-Centennial Celebration Committee of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. Gregg received various degrees from Allen University, Lincoln University, Yale, and Columbia, including a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania. He served as Dean of Allen, Morris Brown, Wilberforce, and Fisk Universities, as well as professor at Howard University, was a pastor at A.M.E. churches throughout the eastern U.S., and served as President of Daniel Payne College. He is also the author of *The A.M.E. Church and the Current Negro Revolt* (1970) and *History of the African Methodist Episcopal Church* (1980). Uncommon. Not in *Blockson.*.
