Hardcover. First edition, signed issue ("The Gold and Gray Edition"). Small octavo. [50]pp. Gray paper-covered boards, with publisher's yellow-gold printed paper wraparound cover label printed in black, on handmade paper stating "Poemscapes" on front cover. Covers have light fading and a touch of wear on spine, a just about fine copy.

This issue limited to 42 copies, this is copy number 17, Signed and numbered by Kenneth Patchen, with an original painted poem, “Kindness of Clowns,” in Kenneth Patchen’s distinctive ink holograph. Also Signed by publisher Jonathan Williams. Patchen's holograph poem and inscription have been boldly written in black ink onto a quarto sheet of yellow-gold handmade paper, painted with a multi-color abstract watercolor decoration by Patchen. The sheet has been mounted onto the front pastedown and front flyleaf as issued. The scarce "Gold and Gray Edition" issued as *Jargon 11*. Not to be confused with the special 'painted' binding issue of the same title, limited to 75 copies. Rare. *OCLC* lists only three holdings of the "Gold and Gray" issue.
