Hardcover. 16mo. vii, 160pp., with a separate title page for “The polite philosopher” (attributed to James Forrester). Bound in contemporary calf over boards. Boards are a little splayed with rubbing and wear at the edges, a few gatherings are shaken and rubbed along the fore-edge, the final two leaves are frayed at the corners and edges (with loss to the printed page numbers), fair or better. The scarce, early American edition printed for Benjamin Johnson in the original binding. Not recorded in the *English Short Title Catalogue*. *OCLC* locates only three copies.
