Between the Covers

Hardcover. Anniversary album. Oblong quarto, measuring approximately 13" x 9¾". [32]ff., interleaved with spiderweb-pattered glassine leaves bound in. Illustrated with 29 gravure images, each measuring 8" x 6¼". Introduction in German. String-tied stamped leather album with cover gilt. Covers with some light fading and wear at the edges, a near fine copy.

A celebration of the 25th anniversary of International Harvester Company's German factory, based at Neuss am Rhein. After an introduction in German, the album consists of 29 lovely gravure images of the factory (which was apparently over 50 acres), the town, and wonderful pastoral scenes of the equipment at work in the fields. This copy with a calligraphic presentation to "Herrn Burgermeister Dr. jur. Werner Koch, Neuß," whom we take to be the Mayor of Neuss. It is also Signed on the presentation page, which we have been unable to decipher, but we presume by the head of the factory. A nice production, illustrating the production of 1930's farm equipment by an American company in Germany, and uncommon.
