Hardcover. "Third edition - revised and greatly improved." 12mo. 96pp. Folding woodcut frontispiece engraved by C.P. Harrison, after E.W. Clay. Early contemporary half calf and marbled paper over boards, with red morocco label elaborately gilt. Very faint dampstain in the text, boards a little rubbed, small tear at the bottom of one fold of the frontispiece, a very good or better copy. A tract by Parson Weems originally published in 1820, and which in turn was revised in 1821. This third edition nearly doubled the size of the original text. Perhaps of most interest in this edition was the folding frontispiece based on Edward Williams Clay's series of cartoons, mostly of black Americans, which were published between 1828-30, and which were in turn based on Cruikshanks' *Life in London* series. The frontispiece depicts two well-dressed black men dueling, with one of their dignified seconds dropping a handkerchief to commence the duel, and another observing from the near distance, and captioned "Like Master, Like Man." *OCLC* locates seven copies of this edition.
