Unbound. Typed Letter Signed on White House stationary dated in 1937. Measuring 6¼" x 9¼". Neat folds from mailing, else fine. Letter from LeHand ("M. A. LeHand") to Teddy Bushell of Northport, New York who was seeking F.D.R.'s autograph, noting: "I am very sorry to have to disappoint you, but due to the great number of requests for his signature which are constantly being received it is impossible for the President to comply with them. I am sure you will understand." Marguerite Alice LeHand was F.D.R.'s private secretary and became in effect the eventual White House Chief of Staff. Because of her great influence with the President she was considered one of the most important people in the White House, and she certainly had a long romantic relationship with F.D.R., although because of his disabilities, whether it was consummated is still a matter of heated debate.
