The Marks Company was the “largest manufactory of artificial limbs” at the turn-of-the-century producing a yearly *Manual of Artificial Limbs*, the 1905 edition seen here, with “copious illustrations” demonstrating the merits and uses of their products. The subtitle reads, “Suggestions on amputations, treatment of stumps, history, etc…An exhaustive exposition of prosthesis.” The final chapters of the book also include “Tips for Visiting New York” should a patient or doctor go to the Marks’ facility and other Marks inventions such as “Marks’ improved folding knife and fork.” Additionally they sent order sheets to physicians with guides for fitting a person for their new prosthetic which included a cut out ruler, featured here unused.
