[Republican National Committee, 1936].

Price: $3,500.00

Unbound. Broadside. 12" x 18". Text printed in bold with header underlined. Uniform toning on the paper else very near fine. A broadside issued by the Republican National Committee to mimic an official announcement from the recently established Social Securing Board informing workers, in the harsh of terms, about the newly established Social Security Act, a fundamental piece of Roosevelt's New Deal legislation: "This is NOT a voluntary plan. Your employer MUST make this deduction." Smaller copies of this broadside were illegally place in the paycheck of workers by some Republican employers and in some Republican affiliated newspapers. The Social Security Act was designed to "provide for the general welfare by establishing a system of Federal old-age benefits, and by enabling the several States to make more adequate provision for aged persons, blind persons, dependent and crippled children, maternal and child welfare, public health, and the administration of their unemployment compensation laws.” While smaller copies of this broadside occasionally surface, this larger format version is very scarce. *OCLC* locates only three copies of a much smaller issue, but none of this larger version.
