About fine in very good or better dustwrapper with a few small chips and tears. Gift inscription by the author's daughter, Gladys Burton Parker to (then) Colonel Benjamin O. Davis, who would later be the first African-American to achieve the rank of general. Autobiography and poetry of Dr. Burton, who was the youngest of 15 children, born into slavery before working his way into Berea College. He went on to become a surgeon and the founder of the Negro Medical Society of Ohio.
