Between the Covers

Unbound. A collection of 10 mounted sepia-toned photographs measuring between 4½" x 6½" and 6" x 8" with some captions on the verso. Edgewear on the mounts else near fine. An archive of 10 mounted photographs from Ormond, Florida around 1905 with the photographs stamp of E.S. Sanborn studios on the verso of some. Many of the photographs show landscapes of the area with tree lined avenues, overgrown foliage, and a foot bridge over a swamp. One photo shows the edge of a lake with palm trees surrounding it, another photograph a group of men resting on the bank of a river with a river boat in the distance. One of the photographs shows people at the starting line of a car race on Ormond Beach. Ormond is often called the “birthplace of speed” and its beaches were used by early car enthusiasts as race tracks for speed tests and competitions.
