Softcover. Two pages (on one folded leaf) dated 15 November 1865. Folded as mailed, slight evidence along one edge that the letter was tipped onto a leaf, else near fine. Addressed to "Dear Sir" at Derby and Miller, in the wake of the end of the American Civil War: "Mr. Claphorn has brought me the copy of your handsome work 'The Tribute Book'... I write to thank you for remembering me, & for sending me the great record of the wonderful doings of your people during the great struggle. I think no other nation can produce such a record of patriotic efforts & sacrifices in any cause, & it will remain forever a matter of pride for your children in future times." The British Bright was a Quaker and a radical politician and activist. According to Historian A.J.P. Taylor on Bright " He did more than any other man to prevent the intervention of this country on the side of the South during the American Civil War..."
