Softcover. Playbill for the Provincetown Playhouse production of *All God's Chillun Got Wings* by Eugene O'Neill. Octavo. Single sheet folded twice to form six pages. Fine. A program for the original run of this controversial 1924 play about a black man who aspires to be a lawyer but is abused by his white wife who is infected b y society's racism. The production was immediately lambasted by critics and the public for miscegenation, most notably for a scene in which the wife kisses her husband's hand. An early play of O'Neill's featuring Paul Robeson who also starred in the revival of *The Emperor Jones* the same year and would soon solidifie his fame in *Show Boat*. The playbill includes a cast list along with small text pieces from W.E.B. DuBois ("The Negro and Our Stage"), John Masefield ("Tragedy"), a poem from Langston Hughes ("The Negro Speaks of Rivers"), and lyrics to the Negro spiritual that provides the play's title.
