Between the Covers

Unbound. Print, professionally framed in a custom maroon aluminum frame, with frame this measures approximately 14" x 18.25". Illustration depicts Betty Boop in a busy office setting, wearing a blue suit overwhelmed with file folders and holding a cup of coffee. Unexamined out of frame, appears to be fine, frame may have light scratches, else fine. Signed in pencil "Leslie Cabarga" in bottom left corner and printed "Carbarga" on the right-hand side. This design also appeared on the *Paper Moon* greeting cards printed in 1988. There has been much contention about who the original performer who inspired Betty Boop was, but with the discovery of the 1928 *M-G-M Movietone Shorts: Little Esther* featuring Baby Esther Jones, there is little doubt Baby Esther Jones is the original "Black Betty Boop." Cabarga created a cartoon depicting her stating: "Betty Boop is victorious when Paramount locates a film of "Baby Esther" doing the Boop routine that, as it turned out, Helen [Kane] had stolen from her." A beautiful, vivid print.
