[Photo Album]: Early Photochrom Color Prints of Egypt

[Zürich, Switzerland]: P.Z. [Photochrom, Zürich, circa 1890].

Price: $2,500.00

Softcover. Oblong quarto. Bolt-bound flexible leather album containing 15 large photochrom color prints of Egypt (printed lithographically from black and white negatives), mounted on card leaves. Each image measures approximately 8.25" x 10.5". Gold-lettered captions in French at the base of each image (identifying the scene), along with the initials "P.Z." and serial numbers (which indicate that the prints were produced by Photochrom, Zürich, circa 1890). The corners of a few are torn or weakened where the images are affixed but all are still attached, and unfaded, and in otherwise reasonably fine condition. The extremities of the binding rubbed with some chipping and wear, but sound and very good. Subjects include views and street scenes of Cairo, boats, Pyramids, the Sphinx, and other monuments. The images, although probably commercially created for the tourist market, are unusually fresh and bright.
