(Photo Album: Leyton Public Library) Original photo album with materials tipped-in, compiled as a gift to a patron or librarian. Oblong quarto, 21 tipped-in black and white photographs, also tipped-in typescript, newspaper article and booklet, black cloth, with hand-calligraphed title page: "To Miss Doris M. Savage / With / The Best Wishes / of / The Staff / of / The Leyton Public Libraries / Wednesday, April 12th, 1950 / To Remember a Happy Partnership / May 1949 - April 1950." Covers rubbed at extremities, else near fine. The photos are mostly of the Leyton Library and its patrons and staff. Many depict the activities sponsored by the library: readings, discussion groups, story hour for children. The typescript and over half of the photos were used for a published booklet, which is also included (The Borough of Leyton Public Libraries: A Family Affair, Leyton Public Libraries, 1950). The newspaper clipping concerns a Leyton librarian, Edward Sydney, who received an important post at the United Nations. [BTC #99151] |
