Unbound. Small engraving. 7" x 4 1/4". Bust engraving probably based on line engraving by Johann Sebastian Muller. Ornament around oval portrait. Edges slightly uneven from cutting, else near fine. Charles Spencer, third Earl of Sunderland was a statesman and bibliophile. He began to form his own library in 1693 when he bought Sir Charles Scarborough's mathematical collection, and by 1699 had an incomparable library including *Tully's Offices, Homer* and *Suidas*.
