A very nice copy of this Pulitzer Prize-winning novel set during the Gold Rush. Adapted in 1963 into short-lived television series with a young Kurt Russell in the title role, also starring Dan O'Herlihy, Charles Bronson, and the Osmond Brothers. A bulky title that generally is found moderately worn.

The author's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, The Travels of Jaimie McPheeters (1958), is moderately scarce in fine condition, because the soft, uncoated dustwrapper rubs easily. Beyond that the author's books are usually modest in price. His 1961 novel A Journey to Matecumbe was the source for a Disney film, and his first book Adrift in a Boneyard (1947), though usually inexpensive, is hard to find in a nice example of the amusing Saul Steinberg jacket.more
