Inscribed by the author to noted mystery author, George Harmon Coxe: "To George Harmon Coxe, who wields a mighty pen and a nasty niblick – Joseph T. Shaw." Mystery set in New York City. Aside from his work as an author, Shaw was the extremely influential publisher of *Black Mask*, the pulp magazine which defined the hardboiled style of writing, and furthered the careers of Dashiell Hammett, Raymond Chandler, Raoul Whitfield, among many others, including Coxe.
