Collecting tips:

Stephen King's popularity, and the size of the printings of each of his first editions, seems to have grown with each subsequent book. The effect of this is that his first few books books are fairly expensive, and the prices of the later ones are modest, as his print runs ran up into the million plus range: his first book, Carrie (1974 ) is only slightly more expensive than his second 'Salem's Lot (1975), and so forth. Probably the toughest of his books (not counting the numerous limited editions of varying print runs) is his first short story collection - Night Shift. The early books published by Doubleday were poorly manufactured, so fine copies can command a premium.
