Poem by an American-born, Kenyon, Harvard, and Oxford-educated poet. This copy Inscribed by the author: "Coco Devotedly Ever, David. Oxford. June 20, 1956." As near as one could come to a dedication copy of this poem, which bears no printed dedication. When published in America, as the title poem of the author's first mainstream publication, *The Deserted Altar and Other Poems*, the books printed dedication read "These poems are for Coco."
