Between the Covers

Unbound. Original art. Charcoal and gouache on paper. Image matted to approximately 11¼" x 9". Framed. Probably a study for a book or magazine illustration. Inscribed in the lower right to fellow artist Ben Stahl: "Paul Bransom to Ben Stahl with great admiration." Bransom, noted for his wildlife illustrations, illustrated dozens of books, including Jack London's *Call of the Wild*. Ben Stahl was an influential painter, author, and illustrator who won a scholarship to the Art Institute of Chicago at age 12. He illustrated more than 750 stories for *The Saturday Evening Post*, and illustrated and wrote several books.
