The Estray: A Collection of Poems

Boston: William D. Ticknor & Co., 1847.

Sold

Hardcover. First edition. Original glazed cream boards with a printed paper spine label. Contemporary gift inscription and a little foxing, else a bright, fine copy in near fine light purple glazed paper wrapper, printed entirely in an intricate arabesque design. *BAL* notes that the first edition was issued in an "illuminated paper wrapper," which aptly describes the one here present. It is a contemporary wrapper that appears never to have been removed from the book. Edited by Longfellow, this anthology opens with his "Proem," later collected in *The Seaside and the Fireside*. As nice a copy as one is likely to see. *BAL* 12088.
