"Merry Xmas"

(1926).

Price: $5,000.00

Original artwork, pencil and watercolor on paper. Measuring 17.75" x 15". Some chipping along the bottom edge and left-hand side with a few closed tears, mounted onto the remnants of an illustration board, but still in very good condition. Humorous scene of men and boys in a Model-T racing down a country road and almost hitting a rooster. Apparently produced by Cummings as a Christmas gift with his Inscription in the lower right-hand corner: "Merry Xmas from A.B. + E.E.C. 1926." "A. B." most likely refers to Anne Barton, Cummings' second wife. *Lopez* #1253.

Biography

American poet and painter who first attracted attention, in an age of literary experimentation, for his eccentric punctuation and phrasing. The spirit of New England dissent and of Emersonian self-reliance underlies the urbanized Yankee colloquialism of Cummings' verse. The commonly held belief that Cummings had his name legally changed to lowercase letters only is erroneous. - Merriam-Webster's Encyclopedia of Literature

In addition to his poetry, Cummings was also noted for both his theories about the visual arts and his own paintings. We are pleased to offer many original E.E. Cummings paintings in collaboration with Ken Lopez - Bookseller.more
