Monsieur Venus
Bruxelles: Auguste Brancart, 1884.
Price: $1,200.00
Hardcover. First edition. Small octavo. 228pp. Printed wrappers rebound in quarter red calf gilt and speckled paper over boards. Moderate rubbing, mostly at the spine ends and tips, a sound very good copy. Highly erotic novel by French symbolist and decadent writer Rachilde (pseudonym of Marguerite Eymery) and Frances Talman (apparently a "ghost" intended to deflect legal ire aimed towards Eymery), was the subject of a scandal and repression, thus the first edition is very uncommon.
