Hardcover. First edition by this publisher, the first edition with text in Gaelic, and with illustrations by Jack B. Yeats (the text was also published in English by Macmillan in 1936, as *Old John,* with illustrations by Helen Sewell). Illustrated with ten plates by Jack B. Yeats, five of which are tipped-in, color plates. Translated into Gaelic by Tomar O Faolain. Large octavo. Quarter red cloth and papercovered boards stamped in black. A couple of light rubber stamps in Gaelic, front cover has a modest stain, else very good lacking the dust jacket. Irish children's book author, and playwright, Mairin Cregan was born in Killorglin, Co. Kerry. Politically active during the War of Independence, her play *Hunger Strike* (1933) reflected her interest in Irish political and social history.
