[Program]: The S.H.S. Dramatic Club presents "A Complicated Affair"

Worcester, Massachusetts: South High School, 1907.

Price: $250.00

Unbound. Program. Single sheet folded once to make four pages. Vertical crease, very good. A program for 1907 South High School production of "A Complicated Affair" by the drama club featuring humorist Robert Benchley in the role of Charles Robert ("private tutor and secretary") alongside his future wife Gertrude Darling, who took second billing as Edith, the daughter of the main character. The pair also served as treasurer and corresponding secretary. While mostly known for writing in *The New Yorker*, Benchely later appeared is several films and won an Academy Award in 1935 for the short film, *How to Sleep*, which he both wrote and starred in. Curiously the program does not list an author of the play, but we have our suspicions.
