Hardcover. First edition. Tall octavo. 304pp. Illustrated from photographs. About fine in near very good dustwrapper with loss of part of the title at the top of the spine. Interesting hard reporting from a woman whose 1929 memoir *The Cradle of the Deep*, although a bestseller, turned out to be largely fictionalized. This book in part redeemed her, she investigates the occasionally sensationalistic (nudism, white slavery), but often valid plight of women in the Depression as a special-assignments reporter for a Boston tabloid, the *Daily Herald*. Scarce in jacket.
